The painter Manoel Costa and his paintings have been
known to me since the end of the '70s, when I had the
pleasure of introducing his first canvases to the market.
Covering an inarguable Brazilian theme, with a market
preference for rural areas and country activities, Manoel
Costa belongs to that group of artists who, being regionalistic,
end up becoming universal.
An honest painting, without the residue of old Schools
and without the pretension of avant-gardism: this is
what Manoel Costa has been doing, with the certainty
of being understood and approved by aficionados of genuinely
Brazilian art.
