When the artist is a creator, he gathers the main sounds
of life in his hands, his heart, his entire body. And
on his canvases what vibrates, through the significant
selection of colors and lines, is everything that until
then did not have its chance or say in the collective
unconsciousness. This I was clearly able to see and,
once again, when, like large windows of expression,
his paintings from 1968 to 1970 opened to my eyes. There
they were, pulsating like living things, typical situations
of the human being in a period of oppression. And with
these eyes - which Manoel Costa himself opened for me
- I was able to also see, love, understand and admire,
in all the rest of his phases, the great music of existence
that comes - or better yet, breaks - out of his brushes,
moved by his enormous creative talent. All in all, authenticity
is what defines Manoel Costa.
