In my opinion, in the paintings of Manoel Costa there
is an emphasis on the praise of work. The labor of rubber
workers, fishermen, farmers is exposed in an allegro
dynamism. The figures move in a symphony of gestures
in contrast with the immobility of the scene. But it
is important to underscore the richness of the colors
frequently mirroring a skillful play of light and shadow,
which will construct a robust presence of volumes. It
is worth considering the abstract phase of the artist
in the past, which well explains the occurrence of painting
in itself in these compositions, and gives them value
independent of the theme, but which enlarges it in terms
of art.
